We recently added active assailant coverage to our offering program for insurance. I suppose I never thought as a mostly home, auto, and smaller business agent that I would offer active assailant coverage in my career. After my recent product training I understand the need for it to be available to everyone. As we've learned from shootings in Kansas City during the Super Bowl celebration parade, even public events need to consider having this coverage as well. All public facilities like churches or gathering places for larger volumes of people, or large employee on site-based businesses, and government or health centers should consider carrying an active shooter policy. These premiums are not cheap, the minimum premium for an active shooter policy for a business or organization is $4,500, so it can only grow from there. Anyone can quote an active shooter policy. This is a high-risk policy that is normally sold through the extended or surplus lines market. And for you as a consumer that typically means higher than typical rates. The standard market has not offered this policy or any coverage near it on the business side. This is truly a specialty product and thus the policy is tailored to the individual exposure. it is a reality that is there now, and coverage was bound to follow. If you have questions about active assailant coverage, give me a call. Heather
