As we approach storm season, and you are getting your renewals what is an agent's best advice for homeowners during storm season? Number ONE is KNOW your deductible when it comes to hail damage. Most carriers these days have made major changes, and you don't want to be surprised when a storm strikes. In the past most carriers offered flat deductibles of $500 or $1,000. Today, you'll find several different key things you should be looking for. Wind / Hail deductibles are the most obvious. Be sure to check your deductible section to see if you have a higher dollar or % deductible for losses caused by wind or hail. Then, also be on the lookout for "roof settlement." And ask if you are quoting how is the roof settlement handled. Some carriers now use a pricing schedule or depreciation schedule based on age of roof. And some companies are doing both. If you don't know these things you can expect a much larger out of pocket bill if you suffer wind or hail, then you think. Know your coverage and what it means to you out of pocket replacement settlement and deductible wise. And if you ever have questions, I give great free advice to anyone my client or not. Be prepared, storms they are a coming. #insurewithfamily #brookson
