We have seen massive increases in water losses in the last three years with our agency family and this year we are seeing the same. In fact, we are noticing water damage in areas and with homeowner's who have never seen it before. Heavy rain events can cause surface water to become an issue and that is not covered on your home policy. Surface water is flood water, it is water that is trying to find a home because the ground is saturated. And that water can put all kinds of pressure on a foundation, seep in, get in through drains or openings into your crawl or basement. Not covered. You can buy coverage for flood through a flood insurance policy. If you are seeing repeated water in the area you may want to consider this. You can also add by endorsement to your home policy back up of water through sewer, drain, or sump pump failure coverage. That coverage covers your building damage & personal property in one lump so you would buy $10,000, $20,000 and on up whatever amount you choose. Weather is here for now and possibly always. It's worth knowing what options may be out there.
